About Me

Hello there, and welcome to my blog.

My name is Louise Guyett and I'm from Dublin, Ireland. Here, you'll find a little bit of information about me and what I do.

Teaching
I began teaching in May 2008 after completing the CELT (Certificate in English Language Teaching). I have worked in three different schools here in Dublin throughout my career, but I have been working for Kaplan International English since September 2008. I completed the Trinity Diploma in TESOL between October 2012 and May 2013 with Oxford TEFL.

Many of the groups of learners I have taught have been adults in a multilingual environment, but I have also taught monolingual groups and adolescents.

I have used a variety of materials in the schools I have worked for, from been given nothing at all to having the latest resources and technology available to me. I'm experienced in using the IWB (Interactive White Boards) and a blended learning system.

Writing
I currently work as a materials writer for both print and digital media for Kaplan International English. I specialise in writing and editing the pronunciation materials for their course books ranging from levels A0 to C1, and self-study pronunciation modules for their LMS (Learning Management System).

I have had an article published in Issue 90 of ETp called 'Get on Board' about using the IWB to make interactive pronunciation activities which focus on building learner confidence in using phonemic symbols and script. I have also written a couple of book reviews for the same publication.

I have also written reports on some of the IATEFL PronSIG (Pronunciation Special Interest Group) events which have been published in the IATEFL Voices and PronSIG Speak Out! newsletters.

Book Reviews
I love books, and ELT books are no exception! I have had two book reviews published in ETp:
  • Focus on Assessment by Eunice Eunhee Jang
  • Focus on Oral Interaction by Rhonda Oliver & Jenefer Philp
My most recent review was for The Book of Pronunciation by Jonathan Marks and Tim Bowen that is to be published in issue 53 of PronSIG's Speak Out!

If you have published a book, resource pack or article and would like me to review it, please contact me at loueltblog@gmail.com
